Hey there! This article was written in 2006.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

The MySpace Cross-poster

Posted 8 August 2006 in announcement, blog, cross-post, myspace, and project

OK, there's a project page up now for the MySpace Cross- poster. You can even testdrive the software, but remember that I've stripping out nearly all of the options. This isn't a replacement to the official MySpace posting interface, it's a streamlining of the interface for a particular purpose.

I've actually had so much fun coding up that script that I decided it would be good if I fixed something that's been bugging me for quite a while. MySpace has terrible feed support, far worse than Xanga's. I've complained bitterly about it, but done nothing to solve my problem.

You see, MySpace only outputs maybe 100 characters of a blog entry, and that's after stripping out anything useful, like links and such. I have to waste my time loading MySpace up with all of its ads and junk just to read the full blog entry. What I need is a program that will output an Atom 1.0 feed with complete blog entries. Watch for it.

Unfortunately, that means I'm creating a filthy hack to support a dirty, dirty website. I hate feeling conflicted about these things. However, some of my Important People (R) blog on MySpace, and I want to read what they have to say.
