Hey there! This article was written in 2007.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

Goodbye, hive mind

Happy birthday to my AIM account! I registered my first and only AIM screen name at 3:34 PM on Sunday, March 22nd, 1998.

Now I must say goodbye to it for a little while, as I've decided to try something radical: I'm going to unplug myself from my constant stream of info. I have emails, IMs, and feeds constantly available to me, and they're a constant source of distractions. I'm going to make it a top priority to strictly meter my time online, which means I will:

  1. keep my instant messenger accounts logged off
  2. check my email and a subset of my feeds at the library
  3. limit my blogging efforts

I think this will be a great exercise for me. Here's to more productive uses of my time! (...and maybe my blog posts will be more readable/approachable.)
