Hey there! This article was written in 2005.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

I got it! I got it!

Well guess what kids! I went and did a crazy thing! I registered my own domain name! Using my own real name! It's kurtmckee.org! Hooray!

I'm really really really excited about having kurtmckee.org. I registered through Meridian Data Systems, although I had to call their offices and speak with them directly in order to register just the domain -- at the moment their registrar's website (Hosts of America) appears to support only registering a domain in the context of a complete hosting solution, which wasn't what I wanted. I'm aware that their prices are more expensive than other vendors, but they're reputable and I know the employers and employees personally. They're Good People (TM) and they'll treat you right. (Meridian is run by Mr. and Mrs. V, for the people who would know).

Update your links, since the old origami.res-blahblahblah won't stay as up-to- date as kurtmckee.org ... NU's IT people aren't always responsive, particularly during the summertime. Oh yes, and I found out Cox Communications caches DNS for two weeks (in contrast, Meridian's time-to-live is 10 minutes), so for all you people using Cox Communications, it's quite possible it will be a while before you're able to get here through kurtmckee.org.
