Hey there! This article was written in 2009.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

The eviction notice

Posted 6 February 2009 in life

On Wednesday, January 28th, I received a delightful note in the post: "Landlord's Ten Days' Notice" (sic). The note informed me that if I didn't cough up January's rent by Friday the 30th they would file suit to have me forcibly removed. "That doesn't sound right," I reasoned. "My rent isn't $900 a month. And besides, I paid January's rent already."

I called my landlord on Thursday the 29th and was immediately informed "Oh, that was a mistake. We don't know how that happened." I asked if I needed to get that in writing, but was assured that that wouldn't be necessary. "Go ahead and throw the letter away." Heh, no.

On Friday the 30th I received a loud knock on my door. I opened it to find my superintendent standing in the hall, and my heart skipped a beat. Did he not get the memo? I'm supposed to be in the clear!

"You can't leave your shoes in the hallway," he said.

Anticlimactic, I know, but it sure beats getting kicked out by mistake.
