No Country for Old Men (2007)

I've enjoyed the Coen brothers' films in the past ("O Brother Where Art Thou?", "Miller's Crossing"), and this film didn't disappoint either. The acting was superb, and the accents, spot on. I was transported by the movie; when the film ended and I began talking with my friend Andrea, she exclaimed "You have an accent! Why are you talking with an accent?!" I drawled that "I guess I just wanted to fit in with everyone else," in reference to the on-screen characters. Funny anecdote, dark and engaging story. Props to Jeff for recommending this movie to me. 5 stars
The Dark Knight (2008)

After finally watching the uncut version of "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker" last year, there has been in me the desire to see a Batman and Joker face off on the big screen with all of the dark and disturbed sequences that shocked me when I saw the animated movie. Although the opening sequence hinted at what was to come, it wasn't until the Joker performed a magic trick for the mob that I knew I would be satisfied. This movie is epic -- see it. 5 stars
