Hey there! This article was written in 2006.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

Passphrases FTW

Posted 29 December 2006

As is my custom, at the beginning of the new year I'll be changing my passwords. I use passphrases for my most sensitive accounts. If you're not familiar with the concept of passphrases, they're pretty simple to construct. Here are some examples of passphrases:

  • Rage, rage against the dying of the light!
  • Sugar and spice, and all to entice.
  • 37: I miss butterfly kisses. =(

Unfortunately, few systems accept full-on sentences of the length I appreciate. For those systems, I make up a 10 character password with upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

I encourage you all to adopt strong password policies.
