The Bourne Insomnia

Posted 14 October 2006 in alarm, blackout, brownout, frat, Jungle-Ball, power, and The-Bourne-Identity

Foster House experienced another brownout, this time at the hands of the Phi- Psi fraternity. They threw a wild party, which resulted in a power surge, which resulted in a brownout in a large number of North campus dorms (also, there was a fire in their basement). I had power to my wall outlets, for instance, while down the hall a resident had no light. This came just as I was beginning to do laundry, so I had to wear swim trunks, and had no sheets for my bed for the night.

After an hour, emergency lighting went out. Then, the fire escape alarms began sounding. This lasted from about 2:30a to 4:00a, which woke many people up, so a group of us started watching the Bourne Identity (the TV outlet had power). About 20 minutes later we lost all power to the building (except to the alarms!), so we started playing Jungle Ball. After 30 minutes all of the power came back on and the alarms shut off, so we finished watching the Bourne Identity.

I am a little tired of the alarms going off in the middle of the night just because the building loses power. I do also want to extend my personal thanks to Phi-Psi for inconveniencing many, many dorms on campus - all of which suffer from the bizarre power-off-alarms-on behavior, from what the maintenance guys tell me at four in the morning.
