Hey there! This article was written in 2006.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

Steve Irwin died!

Posted 6 September 2006 in name:Steve-Irwin, repetition, and stingray

I just heard that Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, died of a stingray attack! Apparently he was out in the water, and got pierced in the heart. I would have expected him to die of like a snakebite, or something like that.

I heard that stingrays can grow a stinger up to 10 inches long. Nonetheless, they usually don't attack people, unless the person steps on them. It's extremely rare for the sting to kill someone, though.

Somebody told me he was shooting a documentary at the time, and that's when he got stung. It just amazes me that he got killed by a stingray. I would have expected it to be a cobra, since he handles them so much.

The really amazing thing is that it's so unlikely for anybody to get killed by a stingray. Even though the tails can grow up to 10 inches long, most of the time stingrays don't attack people. Usually they only attack when a person steps on them.

Seriously, I would have thought he would have been killed by a snakebite. Weird.
