lessons learned in production

Hey there! This article was written in 2006.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

Myspace account deletion

Posted 30 September 2006 in account, delete, ideology, and myspace

I have deleted my account at Myspace.

My account was an experiment, to see if all of the people who don't visit and participate in my website could be swayed if I had an account at the site they claim to be "addicted" to. As it turns out, almost nobody clicked on the link telling them to "Visit my website". Despite this, I decided to keep the account so that nobody else could take myspace.com/kurtmckee.

Myspace, however, represented a severe compromise of my ideological principles, which can be overly simplified as "Don't support bad technology." I have closed my account as result of these views. To my Important People: Don't take this as a symbolic bridge-burning! I did not delete my account as a personal slight to anyone.
