lessons learned in production

Hey there! This article was written in 2006.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

More words to use today

I've had a list of words growing, and I figured it was time to unleash them on you all. Here's the latest in "Words I Don't Use". The definitions provided match the context in which I read the word.

vituperate To rebuke or criticize harshly

fait accompli An accomplished, presumably irreversible deed or fact. (French)

agglomerate To form or collect into a rounded mass.

accretion Growth or increase in size by gradual external addition, fusion, or inclusion.

élan Distinctive style or flair. (French)

opprobrium Disgrace arising from exceedingly shameful conduct.

stultify To render useless or ineffectual; to cripple.

genuflect To bend the knee or touch one knee to the floor or ground, as in worship.

So there you have it. Incredibly, a number of these words came to my attention through Slashdot. Weird, huh?
