lessons learned in production

Hey there! This article was written in 2005.

It might not have aged well for any number of reasons, so keep that in mind when reading (or clicking outgoing links!).

Sidebar changes

Have you seen the changes on the side of this page?

I've removed the "Categories" and "Archives" lists -- people were obviously confused about what the "Categories" links were for, and in particular they thought that clicking on "Photos" would take them to the photo gallery. Also, nobody was using the monthly archives links, so there was no reason to keep either list.

I'm still beating my head against the wall trying to figure out how to properly label what's currently called "My". It just doesn't feel right to call it "My". The link to my bookmarks leads to my account over at del.icio.us, which is a great site for keeping track of my bookmarks online, so I never have to leave home without my pre.cio.us links. The "listening habits" link will take you to my account at Audioscrobbler, which I've been using for about a week now. I knew that both del.icio.us and Audioscrobbler existed, but it wasn't until recently that I saw any value in either service.

Please comment and let me know what you think about the modified sidebar.
